A KILMARNOCK supporters’ group has shown what the town’s football club really means to them with a tremendous show of generosity.

Last week, it was announced that all football in Scotland would be suspended indefinitely due to coronavirus fears.

While many of the big guns in Scottish football and the rest of the UK will be fine to sustain themselves financially during this uncertain time – plenty of clubs across the country don’t have that luxury.

This was proven when Hearts asked ALL of their staff members, including players, to take a 50 percent wage reduction in the wake of the shutdown.

But for Kilmarnock, The Killie Trust have provided them with a welcomed £50,000.

The supporters’ association initially handed over £40,000 of ‘Trust in Killie’ funds to the Ayrshire club.

Additionally though, the trust also kindly donated a further £10,000 of general funds.

A vote saw 98 percent support the groups’ proposal, which will be valuable to help the club as they deal with the COVID-19 crisis effects.

Director Cathy Jamieson said: “Everybody at Kilmarnock Football Club is extremely grateful for the work of The Killie Trust.

“Over the weekend, we’ve seen a huge rise in the number of people joining the trust and pledging regular subscriptions to ‘Trust in Killie’.

“This shows just how much the club means to Killie fans.

“Even when there is no football on the immediate horizon, our supporters are stepping up and backing the team in these unprecedented times.”

Meanwhile, senior management at the club attended a meeting last week to draw up plans for the immediate future.

Player contracts and season tickets were high on the agenda.
