East Ayrshire Council has suspended some waste and recycling collection services in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The council cannot confirm when full services will resume.

Grey/green bin collections will continue (household/general waste) but bulky waste collections and brown bin collections will be suspended. The council advises residents to put their bin out for collection by 6.30am in case of changes to collection times.

Recycling trolley and food waste collections may also be disrupted. The council has assured residents that wherever there are inconsistencies in collections one week, they will be prioritised the following week.

Residents are advised to place their recycling trolley and any excess out for collection by 6.30am. If it is not collected, residents should take it back in by 3pm and present it the following week.

In keeping with new government guidelines to stay at home unless shopping for essential food and medicine, the council has asked residents not to use local recycling points, for example supermarkets. Recycling centres at Western Road, Kilmarnock and Garlaff, Cumnock have been closed until further notice.

Repair and replacement of bins and containers is now suspended, as well as application for additional waste or recycling bins.

To ensure a smoother and more efficient collection service during the coronavirus outbreak, East Ayrshire Council has urged residents to look out for their neighbours to check they are able to put bins out, and to generally assist in whatever way they can to make it easier for council workers to collect bins during this period.
