KIND-HEARTED volunteers helped brighten up their community centre by power washing the mono-block.

Two pals, George Hodge and Charles McIllvaney, decided to give something back to Netherthird Community Centre after the outside area had become filthy.

The pair, who regularly go to the café for a cup of tea or food, vowed to help the facility at the heart of Netherthird.

They spent weeks using power wash equipment from their own car wash business to hose down and polish the mono-blocks outside the centre.

Sylvia Reid, who runs Netherthird Community Centre, was overwhelmed with the generosity.

She told the Chronicle: “We have a lot of mono-blocking all the way round the community centre and it was filthy.

“Two local guys who come in to the café and have a car wash business volunteered to just power wash the whole place.

“It shows the great wee community that we’ve got here in Netherthird.

“It would have been a few hundred quid to do it. It brightens up the centre for everyone.

“We are very lucky that if we ever need anything done, there are loads of guys who will offer to help. Even if it’s popping out to get some milk for us, it’s great.”

The centre thanked their heroes with a kind post shared on social media, which read: “Great community effort from our local boys, we can’t thank them enough for power washing all around the community centre what a huge difference thanks boys.”

Charles says he was happy to volunteer to support his local centre, where he spends time dining at the cafe, and speaking with staff.

He said: “We came up to the café, we saw it was needing done so we thought we would do it to help the community out.

“We are usually washing cars, but it was no problem to take the time out to do this.

“It’s a long time since it was last done. We’re always happy to step in.”
