Something must be done about a dangerous Ayrshire road, says a woman who has seen accident after accident outside her home.

The 60-year-old, who lives on the B780 road between Dalry and Kilbirnie, says she has had a regular flow of people dripping blood into her home to use the phone after accidents.

She said: “Three years ago, North Ayrshire Council confirmed this was one of the two most dangerous roads in North Ayrshire.

“They said they’d do something. But there’s another car planted in my garden.”

On Friday, January 31, she said she heard an extremely loud bang.

A car had come off the B780 and into her garden, crashing into a tree and dragging up a telephone or power cable.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police can confirm that at 1.03pm on January 31, officers attended reports of a one vehicle road traffic collision on the B780 Dalry to Kilbirnie road near to the junction with the B784.

“At this time the female passenger was conveyed to Crosshouse hospital with minor injuries. There have been no charges libelled in relation to the collision.”

Over the course of 35 years, the landlord said she has lost seven trees lining her driveway due to cars crashing into them.

She said she is sick of constant accidents.

She told the Herald: “I’ve had three cars in my garden in the last 12 months alone.

“I’ve watched a body bag left at the bottom of my garden, in the past.

“I’m really angry, it’s putting people at risk, it’s putting me at risk.”

The Herald reported the death of a man who was hit by a car on the road on November 4 last year.

Robert Taylor, 33, died the following day, following the incident on the B780 approximately 200 yards east of East Mains Farm.

Two children were left in a serious condition after a collision near the junction with the B784 in October 2016.

The eight-year-old girl and four-year-old boy were passengers in a red Vauxhall Corsa when it was involved in a crash with a black Chevrolet Spark.

In February 2015, a woman had to be airlifted to hospital after a car plunged into a burn just outside Kilbirnie.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We are in the process of arranging a meeting with [the homeowner] to discuss the concerns she has recently raised with us and to consider options to improve road safety at this location.”
