A CUMNOCK organisation which is helping youths get on their bike has been awarded thousands towards their successful cycle project.

Yipworld, has received the welcome boost of £24,713 from Paths for All, a charity that promote exercise.

It comes after a year of success for Yipworld’s Bike Hoose project which now, thanks to funding they are hoping will get more youngsters out enjoying all Cumnock and Doon Valley has to offer.

The ambitious project was started with the view to getting staff trained up to take young people out for a led cycle around the area.

Over the past year, they have visited the picturesque grounds at Dumfries House and pedalled through Lugar with staff who are trained up in cycle proficiency – getting both primary and secondary pupils engaged.

Now with the help of funding, they want to build on the success of the Bike Hoose.

Gregor Henderson told Chronicle: “The Bike Hoose has been running for around a year. We’ve had staff trained up with LED rides to take young people out for a cycle around the area. We had help from Paths for All to invest in a small fleet of bikes, we’ve got around 10 to 15 new bikes.”

Graham McQueen, Senior Development Officer at Paths for All said: “We’re really pleased to support Yipworld through our Smarter Choices, Smarter Places Open Fund.

“It’s great to be able to support such a worthwhile project that is encouraging and supporting young people in Cumnock to choose to travel actively.”
