A NEWMILNS company has been praised for their hard work.

South Scotland MSP Brian Whittle has been out in paying a visit to the team at Saxen Office furniture.

The business, which began life as a website run from the spare room of owner Shirley Wallace, has grown to include several employees and now has its own showroom.

As well as working with local and national companies to refit and refresh their offices, Saxen stock a wide range of office furniture produced by leading British, French and Italian designers for sale to the trade and public alike.

Brian Whittle MSP said: “I enjoyed visiting Saxen and having a chat with Shirley about the path that led her to start her own business. It’s obvious that she has put a lot of time and effort into building Saxen up and it’s great to see how it’s paid off.

“Businesses like Saxen are a vital part of our economy and I’m delighted to have the chance to visit and learn more about them.”

Shirley Wallace from Saxen Office Furniture said: “It was a pleasure to show Brian around our showroom and tell him of our trials and successes over the past 15 years.

“Saxen originally started off providing commercial and home office furniture and in the last couple of years, we have expanded our team and moved into supplying furniture for student accommodation, care homes, hospitality and can also provide move management and fit-out services.

“This has presented new challenges for us but is proving to be very successful so far.”
