SIR Tom Hunter is asking for youths to show their ‘passion for the environment’ to win the chance to see Sir David Attenborough live.
The New Cumnock-born businessman is offering secondary school pupils across Scotland the opportunity to see the iconic natural historian as guest speaker at a charity event in Edinburgh.
The high-profile event will be held at the National Museum of Scotland in the capital on Tuesday, February 18.
Budding environmentalist have been asked to take part in a competition to consider what changes could be made to address the growing climate crisis, with a special focus on Scotland.
And the best entry will secure the chance for the winning youngster, a group of teachers and classmates to attend.
The glitzy bash will also feature a performance from violinist Nicola Benedetti CBE and pop group Hue and Cry.
The event partners with Zero Waste Scotland, and the Hunter Foundation – Sir Tom’s charity.
Sir Tom said: “Climate change is happening now and we need to move quickly to address it. We are looking for answers and opportunities to what is clearly a global issue of concern, so who better to ask than the people who will be affected the most – our next generation of young Scots.”
Iain Gulland, chief executive of competition sponsors Zero Waste Scotland, said: “The world needs fresh ideas for ways we can change our lifestyle and this competition represents a great opportunity for young people to share their thoughts and make a difference.”
The lucky winning school will be contacted with further details as soon as possible after the closing date. The school will also be advised on publicity for the event.
