A CUMNOCK women’s hub could be setto shutits doors forever due to funding.

The Chronicle understands the Heart and Soul hub on Ayr Road, which was set up for the benefit of women and girls in the community, is under threat of permanent closure due to lack of funding for the vital project.

The Centrestage centre, which hosts various community groups, was officially opened by East Ayrshire Depute Provost Claire Leitch back in July 2017.

It was developed by Centrestage and funded by The Robertson Trust to create an aspirational and friendly space for women and girls of all ages to feel welcome and included. Ahead of its launch, Project Manager Valerie Barr said: “Heart and Soul is a really amazing thing.

We all have challenges but when we are together it’s all about belonging; it’s about feeling positive and having a place together.

Heart and Soul is all about kindness and compassion.

It’s about women being the best that they can be. It’s about sharing skills and ultimately, having fun in a nurturing environment.”

In Aprilthis year Centrestage opened the doors to the new revamped hub allowing a far greater range of activities, support groups and services led by the women and girls of the community.

Centrestage confirmed the possible closure but was unable to comment further as the Cumnock Chronicle went to press.
