More than 150 young people took part in the annual Junior and Senior Youth Conferences in East Ayrshire last week.
The conferences were co-designed by members of the Children and Young People’s Cabinet who worked with Vibrant Communities staff to choose workshop topics that were directly relevant to young people across East Ayrshire.
Young people themselves delivered the workshops which looked into mental health, bullying, peer pressure, consent, relationships, alcohol and drugs. There was also a physical workshop in which the young people got to try out boxing, tri-golf and weightlifting as well as learning about healthy sugar and fat intake.
Depute Provost Claire Leitch, who is also Children’s Champion, said: “Events like these take a lot of hard work to organise and I would like to thank everyone involved for putting them together. All of the young people got really involved in the workshops and it was fascinating to hear from their perspective about topics which affect them and are important to them.”
