Council plans to demolish and replace a Cumnock school are still awaiting the greenlight.
Plans to demolish the existing Netherthird Primary School building and replace it with a more modern two-storey building have been lodged β which planning documents state will address the existing structural and accessibility issues and create a more inclusive environment.
East Ayrshire Cabinet agreed back in January 2018 to replace the crumbling school building with a new school and nursery including additional support needs centre.
The new school will have the capacity to accommodate 278 pupils, with nine classrooms for 254 pupils and four supported learning classrooms for a further 24 pupils.
Older pupils in primary classes 4, 5, 6 and 7 will be located in classrooms in the upper floor and Primary 1,2 and 3 will be located on the ground floor.
The planning statement said: βThe main standard design classroom teaching areas will open out to break out spaces which offer the opportunity for more focused learning for smaller groups, the idea being to get away from the institutional feel of long narrow corridors.β
