A NEW Cumnock team’s bid to take over the Greenhead Pitch and Pavilion looks set to be approved by council chiefs.

A community asset transfer by Glenafton Amateurs for Greenhead Park Pitch and Pavilion will be considered by East Ayrshire Cabinet members today (Wednesday).

Back in March 2017, Cabinet previously approved the property to be declared surplus to requirements and demolished.

While demolition was scheduled for this year, during the interim period the pavilion suffered some damage.

Prior to demolition commencement however the newly formed Glenafton Amateurs submitted a community asset transfer request with demolition put on hold while the full application was submitted and a decision could be reached on the future.

Cabinet meeting papers state: “Discussions were also held with the club in relation to the flood prevention scheme and the limited access to the pavilion and pitches over the short term.

“The club have now submitted their detailed application with knowledge of the implications from the flood prevention works. The application has been assessed.

“It is recommended to approve the asset transfer with a three-year rent and insurance free period to assist the club to complete all repairs and necessary works within this timescale.

“Further support will be offered through Vibrant Communities to aid the asset transfer and to support the development of the organisation.”
