A Hallowe'en house in Forehill could be in the running for the spookiest in the shire.
Every year Ayr East Cllr Chris Cullen and partner Shannon’s family transform the home into a haunted house for the youngsters – with bags of treats for every visitor.
And the SNP councillor, who dressed up as Death for Hallowe’en, added that they aim to get bigger and better every year – with the idea originally from former MP and Shannon’s mum Corri Wilson.
He said: “We start buying sweets and crisps in September but can only guess how many guisers we are going to have. This year we made up 450 goodie bags and still had to go and get extras as we run from 5pm to 9pm.
“This all started when Shannon and Kieran were kids and was just for family. In 2006 the decision was taken to open the doors to the public and this was the brainchild of Corri Wilson, who organised and carried out everything.
“Although we spend every year we keep every item and store it so we have a few thousand pounds worth of stuff including lights, smoke machines, projectors etc.
“I became involved in 2012 when I met Shannon and with Kieran’s creative flair and my practical construction skills we aim to be bigger and better every year with more plans in the pipeline.
“The best part of the house in my opinion is when the kids enter the kitchen, it’s the spooky part after the guisers have visited the witch and done their party piece, it’s a darker area and more spooky and really gets the excitement built up with the kids as they don’t know what to expect.”
