Dog ‘best friends’ in Cumnock shelter need rehomed together

Black Labrador Dexter and his buddy boxer crossbread Dodger are hoping to find their family soon.

The pooches were saved by Islay Dog Rescue centre in Cumnock and have been inseparable for the past three and a half years.

Both dogs enjoy walks and walk well on the lead so would love an owner who would take them out.

Dexter is nine-years-old and Dodger is three-and-a-half-years old.

Dodger is very excitable and friendly around people but it would be best to home him in a house with children above the age of 12.

All dogs leaving Islay Dog Rescue are fully assessed (assessments can be made available to potential owner) ,neutered, microchipped, flea’d wormed and fully vaccinated.

The adoption fee for Dodger and Dexter is £185 each.

We told recently how the selfless dog centre is in dire need of more volunteers to help look after the dogs.

They could be at risk of closure due to a massive shortfall in help meaning they can’t save any more dogs from ‘death row’.

Now they are also hosting a volunteer day on Saturday, October 12, from 9.30am until 4pm to get more people in the door.

But the shelter said to fail now would be ‘unthinkable’ and is determined to get the facility back on its feet, but they need help.

They are calling on punters to come forward and volunteer to save the charity which has rehomed over 600 dogs.

Helpers will be treated to lunch and refreshments in reward for walking the adorable dogs and can even give them a bath.

The charity is also looking for DIY projects to be carried out on the kennels and gates.

There is no charge to attend the fun day and lunches will be available from the BBQ.

Children are welcome providing they are dog savvy and are accompanied by an adult.
