A MAN who had to be restrained by five officers after going on a rampage in a police station is facing jail.

William Graham resisted arrest and struggled with police so violently that it took five policemen to restrain him.

Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard the trouble started when Graham, 38, was taken to Saltcoats Police Office on February 23 this year.

The court heard Graham, of Freeland Court in Glasgow, demanded officers drive him home instead of the police station.

When they refused he became abusive and violent.

Fiscal Saud Hussain said: “He demanded to leave and was told he would not be going home.

“He shouted ‘You’re f*****g c**** not to take me home’ as he said this he punched the glass door of the office and was subsequently detained.

“As he was walking through to the change area of the police office the accused lunged towards one of the officers and attempted to head butt him, narrowly missing him.

“The accused was restrained and placed in handcuffs. He struggled and resisted arrest resulting in a total of five officers restraining the accused. He was taken to a floor position where he continued his behaviour.”

Graham’s lawyer Simon Brown said his client struggled with alcohol and was remorseful. He said: “He is 37-years-old and has struggled with an addiction to alcohol. These incidents are fuelled by Mr Graham’s consumption of alcohol.

“He realises the difficult situation he has put himself in but he does seem to have taken significant steps to deal with it.”

Sheriff Craig Harris sentenced him to a Community Payback Order with 12 months supervision and 100 hours unpaid work.

He was also given a Restriction of Liberty Order which will see him wearing a tag and unable to leave his home between 7pm and 7am.
