Zero Waste Scotland have urged residents in East Ayrshire to think about food waste in their household.

During Recycle Week 2019, they are hoping to spread awareness in how to better discard waste items.

Only 55 per cent of households in Scotland recycle their food waste.

Nearly half of our food waste ends up in landfill, where it rots and produces methane.

ZeroWaste Scotland has asked households to put food waste in the food caddy provided rather than their usual bin.

Households can put most food waste in the bin, such as: leftovers, pasta/bread, teabags/coffee grounds, pet food, vegetable an peelings, eggs and eggshells, fruit, meat and bones and dairy.
