A KILBIRNIE carer has been let off with a warning after launching a tirade of vulgar abuse at a colleague.

Arlene Conway was hauled in front of the Scottish Social Services Council after being aggressive and abusive to other carers while she was employed as a support worker at Moorpark Place.

The panel found that Conway got into an altercation with a colleague during a power cut at the residential home, which cares for adults with autism, on January 14, 2015.

After becoming aggressive Conway had called her colleague ‘a f*****g idiot’ and ‘an imbecile’ before pointing into her face and shouting repeatedly, before eventually walking out in the middle of her shift.

Two years later, on April 10, 2017, Conway told another colleague: “Your mother goes and dies and you are up here roaring and greeting to management that it was your mother’s dying wish for you to work a sleepover with (another colleague)”.

She was further found to have used abusive language on various occasions on the same day, saying: ‘I believe it’s true so get to f***’; ‘well on you fucking go’; ‘get to f***, just report me because I don’t give a f***’; ‘f*** off’.

The SSSC told Conway her behaviour had “risked adversely affecting the wellbeing of colleagues and service users and causing them distress” and showed “a loss of self-control”.

Conway was also told abandoning her shift could have put services users “at risk”.

The report stated: “It represents an abdication of your duties and it could have placed service users at risk of harm due to insufficient staffing levels and could have placed additional strain on colleagues.”

However Conway escaped serious punishment because she had shown remorse and insight into her behaviour and admitted that she could lose her temper but “didn’t intend to cause harm”.

Conway also said she had been experiencing personal difficulties at the time of both incidents.

Conway was hit with a warning which will be placed on her Social Services registration for two years.
