Sanquhar’s Riding of the Marches kicked off on Sunday, August 11 with the traditional parade through the village.

Pageantry horses and principals braved the rain to parade to the War Memorial, where Cornet Cameron Sanderson laid a wreath. The day also saw the Kirking of the Cornet, a ride out, and the breaking out of the Cornet’s flag.

Events take place all week, culminating in the big day on Saturday, August 17. All are welcome to join the Burgh Piper’s Reveille, starting at 6am, from Pier’s Thorn.

The Fencing the Court of the Marches at Tollbooth is at 8am, with the the Ride of the Marches leaving at 8.20am. Paige Bryce is crowned Sanquhar Queen at 12pm.

The afternoon sees fun entertainment at Sanquhar Primary School field from 2pm, the Massed Bands at 5.15pm, and a family music night at 6pm.
