WATCH the shocking moment a family desperately try to drive through major floods in Newmilns.

Keara Knapp, 22, and was left stunned after being trapped in the car when heavy rainfall quickly filled local roads.

She was left panicking when they approached a red light forcing them to stop in the middle of the water.

She posted footage of the horror flood scenes to warn other residents.

Keara said: “We’re gonna need a bigger boat.

“Just a heads up anyone going through newmilns - darvel, newmilns is flooded.

“Car powered though we just managed to get through before the police closed the road for the fire engine.”

Luckily the car was able to push on dragging them out of the flood to safety.

It comes as the Cumnock and Doon Valley area have been warned to prepare for flooding which could cause 'danger to life'.

East Ayrshire will continue to be battered by thunderstorms and heavy rain this Friday according to the Met Office who have now issued a yellow warning.

Emergency services have been forced to deploy sandbags in Auchinleck and Kilmaurs after major flooding this week.

Forecasters are predicting there is a chance that homes and businesses could be damaged.

The Met office said: "A band of heavy rain followed by heavy showers or thunderstorms has the potential to bring disruption.

East Ayrshire Council said: “Due to the continuing heavy rain we are currently responding to requests for assistance in a number of communities.”
