Join East Ayrshire Leisure’s Countryside Rangers for all things batty as they prepare to celebrate International Bat Weekend.

Visit Knockshinnoch Lagoons, New Cumnock for a Bat Walk on Tuesday, August 13 at 8.15pm with the rangers and discover more about these impressive flying mammals.

Learn about their fascinating lives and listen in on them as they hunt for midges and moths. Bat detectors provided. The walk costs £4 per person and under fives are free.

Take part in nature activities and enjoy delicious campfire meals and treats with the Countryside Rangers for a Camp Out at Croilburn (Whitelee) on Wednesday, August 14. The rangers will show you how to safely light a fire and forage for edible snacks from nature’s larder.

Come nightfall, you might be lucky enough to see some nocturnal creatures on a dusk walk.

Enjoy some star gazing and hot chocolates before snuggling up in your sleeping bag for the night. In the morning, wake up to the dawn chorus and enjoy a camp breakfast before striking camp and ‘leaving no trace’. Suitable for ages 6yrs+ but children must be accompanied by an adult. Your evening meal and breakfast are provided but please bring your own tent and bedding.

Tickets are £20 for adults, £15 for U15 yrs or £60 for a family (two adults and two kids).

On Thursday August 15 head to the Dean Castle Country Park for a special Bat Walk to see if you can spot the four different species of bats that live there.
