A veterinary surgery is warning pet owners about the dangers of animals getting heat stroke in the Summer.

MBM Vets Mauchline shared advice on social media urging owners to be vigilant.

Heatstroke in pets can occur very rapidly and can be fatal. Dogs are particularly susceptible and can die within hours of severe heat stroke occurring.

A spokesperson for MBM Vets said: “Watch for any burny hot surfaces for paws, keep rabbits and small pet hutches in the shade and let your pet have access to ice and frozen water bottles or paddling pools as needed.

“If you think your pet has overheated, get in touch with us immediately.”
