A FURIOUS customer was left ‘disgusted’ after finding mouldy food on Asda’s shelves in Cumnock.

Dale was left feeling ‘sick’ when he picked up contaminated lemons in the store which were on sale to the public.

After alerting staff to the issue he insists they only removed the fruit with visible mold marks which worried him.

The angry shopper from Catrine insists it isn’t the first time he has discovered expired products on the local super markets shelves.

He claims last year Coke was spotted on the shelves one whole year out of date.

Now he is determined to warn other shoppers about his experiences in a desperate bid to make Asda ‘take action’.

Dale said: “A lot of people have to rely on the shop for their food and I just don’t think this is good enough, something needs to be done.

“I was disgusted when they only took the mouldy lemons away because mold spreads so the other ones would have been infected as well.

“It puts me off shopping in Asda I already wasn’t keen after finding out of date stuff before but this just confirms my thoughts.

“I think it just shows there isn’t enough stock rotation, how did no staff notice this?

“I want to warn other shoppers and hopefully something changes because something desperately needs done.”

A spokesperson for Asda told the Chronicle: “We take complaints of this nature seriously and will always try to investigate instances where we don’t meet our own high standards.

“Unfortunately, on this occasion, we’re unable to look into this complaint in more detail as it has not been reported to our customer services team, but our Cumnock store has carried out a number of checks following the call to the Cumnock Chronicle and we can confirm that the other lemons are just as customers would wish to find them.”
