A ‘SUPER’ headteacher will be hired to lead five schools and two nurseries combined at Scotland’s biggest campus.

The person who lands the job as ‘Head of Campus” in Cumnock would be paid nearly £96,000.

There would be a total of about 2,300 pupils on the campus, which is currently under construction.

An East Ayrshire Council recruitment pack said the new head would be responsible for “strategic leadership of all education on the campus.”

East Ayrshire depute chief executive Alex McPhee said the council wants to “recruit an outstanding leader with a talent for achievement, innovation, partnership working and community inspiration”.

Individual headteachers of the schools would report to the new recruit.

A job specification issued by East Ayrshire Council listed a remit of 43 areas of responsibility.

Interviews are due to take place in September for the 35 hour per week post.

The application deadline was June 23.

The £68 million Barony Campus will incorporate two high schools Auchinleck and Cumnock Academies.

The combined secondary school will be renamed the Robert Burns Academy. The campus will also be home to Barshare and Greenmill primaries.

They will both be called Lochnorris Primary School.

The two nurseries will become the Cherry Trees Early Childhood Centre.  Additional support needs school Hillside will also be based on the site.

The super school should open by 2020.

It is the biggest capital project ever undertaken by East Ayrshire Council.
