POLICE have launched an appeal after a wheelie bin set on fire, was placed up against a door at a property in Dundonald.

The incident took place on Friday, July 12 and is said to have caused extensive damage.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 11.10pm on Kilmarnock Road in the village.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze with the man and woman in the property escaping without any injuries.

Detectives have called the wilful fire “incredibly reckless” as it blocked the only exit to the property.

Detective Constable Robert Docherty, Ayr, CID said: “We are treating this fire as wilful. Whoever moved this bin and set it alight against the only exit to this property was incredibly reckless and put those within at risk.

“We are still trying to establish the motive for this act and are appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch with us.

“The area is near to Dundonald town centre and therefore there may have been people in the area at the time. We ask you to think back, do you remember seeing anyone in the area?

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police via 101, quoting incident number 5472 of Friday 12 July 2019. Alternatively, you can contact CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where information can be given in.”
