A DAD went shed massive amounts of weight after being terrified he wouldn’t see his little boy grow up.

Tam Nimmo, 55, lost almost four stone in just 26 weeks after doctors test warned him he his health had reached ’dangerous’ levels.

He has now halved his type 2 diabetes medication after deciding to ‘bite the bullet’ and started going to Cumnock Slimming World classes.

The ambitious dad is hoping to completely cure his illness as by August.

Cumnock Chronicle:

It comes after Tam quit eating junk food overnight after spending years binging on chocolate, crisps, full fat fizzy juice, and eating out.

Now the Cumnock slimmer hasn’t even had a single takeaway since January and even managed to shed weight while on a dream holiday to Florida with his family.

He said whenever he considered slipping back into old unhealthy habits he thought about his family and decided being in their future was more important.

Tam said: “I have lost three stone and half a pound since January 7th this year.

“I was 15 stone 5 and a type two diabetic. I had tests done at the doctor and they came back dangerously high which made me realise I had to do something and fast.

“I also saw pictures of myself in December and wasn’t impressed, so thought I would give Slimming World a serious bash.

Cumnock Chronicle:

“I was apprehensive at first because I know not a lot of guys use the class but I bit the bullet and joined.

“I quickly found out how fantastic it was and Elaine who runs the sessions was amazing.

“Whenever I started to feel like giving up, I just thought about my family and how if I keep going the way I’m going I won’t be in their future.

“I had a wee boy in my 40’s, so he is still quite young and I thought if I keep going the way I am I won’t see him grow up, that really scared me.”

Tam went from a 36inch waist to a 30 inch waist in just a few months by watching his diet and going walks.

He has now started cooking for the first time ever after living off delivered and fast food.

Cumnock Chronicle:

The health kick has forced him into the kitchen and allowed him to learn new recipes and try new foods.

But he rewards himself with a daily treat of a chocolate bar.

Tam added: “I don’t want to lose anymore weight but I am still doing Slimming World. I just want to maintain now that I have reached my goal and stay healthy.

“I can walk for miles now without it bothering me at all but before I would get really tired and out of puff almost right away.

“It’s great because I don’t feel like I’m going to die really young now, the doctor was constantly telling me I was increasing my risk of a heart attack.

Cumnock Chronicle:

“At my last diabetic review I had lost 22lbs and my medication was halved so I’m hoping my next review which is at the end of August, I can have my medication completely stopped.”

Elaine, who run’s Tam’s Slimming World group in Cumnock, said: “I’m super proud of him.

“What a superstar.”
