A country pub is to get a new lease of life, courtesy of a local lass returning to her roots after 25 years.

The Failford Inn has been in existence for over 100 years since the former thatch-roofed quarry workers cottage was converted into a coaching inn.

New Licensee, and General Manager, Holly Cree, who grew up in Failford and now lives in nearby Tarbolton, has a long history with the Failford Inn.

She worked there for over 10 years in the 90s as cook and bartender, kicking off a career in retail and hospitality management, including managing The Lamlash Golf Club on the Isle of Arran.

Holly Cree said: “My first job was cooking and serving at the Failford Inn, and it’s been a life-long ambition to have it myself some day. We’re excited to breathe new life into our beloved pub, as well as restoring what people always loved about Failford: fresh, hearty pub food; a clean, welcoming space and friendly craic.”

She added: “Times have been hard for country pubs, but we’ve been overwhelmed by the goodwill and support we’ve had since announcing that we will be re-opening Failford, and look forward to welcoming returning regulars and new customers alike. Come awa’ in!”.

After administering some TLC, the new host hopes to ‘soft launch’ the Inn in early July to work out any kinks, with a grand opening to come later. The Inn will be open 12pm until 10pm initially but as the summer season kicks in the hours will be expanded accordingly.

The Inn has seen mixed fortunes in recent times, with various operators trying their hand at returning the much-loved pub and restaurant to its glory days, against a backdrop of hard times for country pubs in general.

But this well-loved gem has some assets that make it stand out from all the others: a cosy, traditional bar with original log fire; a comfortable dining room with panoramic windows and a huge deck overlooking the River Ayr; a reputation for being dog friendly; and the Inn’s unbeatable location adjacent to the popular River Ayr Gorge Walk. All of which make it an appealing spot for a post-walk lunch, after-work supper, or just a few drinks in good company.
