Volunteers at Quarriers North Ayrshire were rewarded recently for their hard work.

The service commended six of its dementia befriending volunteers as part of Volunteers Week and Dementia Awareness Week.

Patricia Gibson MP presented the volunteers with certificates at an event on Friday, June 7 in the Laurieston Hotel, Ardrossan.

Lizann McDonald from Quarriers North Ayrshire said: “Our volunteer befrienders are matched to a service user who has been referred to the service and once a week the volunteer will spend time with their befriendee doing something they both enjoy doing, whether it be going down town for a coffee and a scone or going for a game of snooker for example.

“The idea is stop people with dementia becoming lonely and isolated.”
