AN AUCHINLECK Talbot mad schoolboy had a night to remember when he was given a permanent souvenir of his beloved club’s latest success.

Jake Drummond, 6, from Cumnock was gobsmacked when long-serving player Mark Shankland presented him with his league winner’s medal after leaving the field following last Wednesday’s 2-0 win against Pollok.

The gongs were handed out along with the trophy after the full-time whistle.

Shankland said: “Jake is a big fan, he goes everywhere with Talbot and I know his brother Jordan. I thought it would be a nice touch to let him have my medal.

“It was a good night and important to win at home in front of our fans.”

Jake’s dad Jim said: “I was working but Jake messaged me on FaceTime to tell me and he was absolutely ecstatic. It was such a nice thing for Mark to do.

“Jake plays for the Talbot Under-12s so I think Mark did it to help inspire him.”

The P2 youngster from Barshare Primary will be travelling on a supporters’ bus to the final at Hamilton with his dad, brother and mum, Karen.

Added Jim: “Jake goes to all the matches, he absolutely loves Talbot. We are all fans, it’s been a good season and hopefully they can bring the cup home.”
