HUNDREDS of people are expected head to New Cumnock for a midnight swim.

Eager swimmers are ready to enjoy a Douk In The Dark as Scotlands only fresh water swimming pools keeps it’s doors open late.

Visitors can enjoy the 30-degree heated pool under the stars for just £5 on Saturday, June 1 till midnight.

This will also include a a hot or soft beverage as swimmers take part in the quirky event.

Mary Clapperton, duty officer at New Cumnock Swimming Pool, said: “When you think of Scotland, one of the last things that would spring to mind would be swimming outdoors in the dark.

"However, New Cumnock is home to a 30-degree heated pool which makes it the perfect venue for our popular Doukin’ In The Dark events.”

“Tickets for the event cost just £5 per person and include a hot or soft drink. They can be purchased from the swimming pool or from Dumfries House.”

The Tamar Manoukian New Cumnock Swimming Pool was threatened with closure in 2016 but was rescued by The Prince’s Foundation, the charity founded by HRH The Prince of Wales, and headquartered at nearby Dumfries House estate.

The refurbished facility, part of a £4m refurbishment of New Cumnock undertaken by the charity that includes the renovated adjacent town hall, offers employment to 12 local people on a full-time and part-time basis.

The Prince’s Foundation, which runs the facility, has drawn up an action-packed timetable of pool activities, including aqua-fit and aquajogging classes.

The state-of-the-art lido is also available for private hire.

Doukin’ In The Dark will take place on June 1, July 6, August 3 and August 31. Tickets can be reserved in person at the pool or by emailing info@dumfries-house.org.uk
