DISABLED residents have been celebrated in Cumnock through an inclusive sports event.

A mix of football, music and partnership working made up the events that were held across East Ayrshire to Disabled residents celebrated mark Learning Disability Awareness Week which for people with learning disabilities in the community.

Now in its fifteenth year, the week featured a Football Fun Day at Cumnock Juniors which was rounded off with an awards presentation and disco.

It comes as part of the Partnership in Practice event at St Kentigern’s Church inKilmarnock to give all workers and organisations interested in finding out about what is available to help people with learning disabilities.

Delegates at the event were treated to a rousing performance of ‘The Greatest Showman’ classic ‘A Million Dreams’ by the East Ayrshire Council’s Workplace Choir.

Councillor Iain Linton, Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, said: “The week has featured a very enjoyable series of events which have highlighted all of the excellent work that goes on across East Ayrshire and between partner agencies to help people with learning disabilities.”

Another Learning Disability Week will run in June which will feature freeshowcase nights at Cumnock Town Hall on Tuesday, June 18 and Stewar ton Area Centre on Thursday, June 20, both at 7pm.

There will be an all ability Ayrshire Highland Games on Wednesday,19 June starting at 10am at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena. The launch of Keep Safe in East Ayrshire will also take place on June 28 at Cumnock Town Hall.
