EGLINTON Park is ‘very much still a safe place to visit’ - that’s the message from the police after a spate of vandalisms and a stabbing within the picturesque setting.

Within the last month the historic Ice House, a community defibrillator and a bug hotel designed by children were all destroyed and a 19-yea-old was rushed to hospital after he was stabbed during a large scale ‘disturbance’ involving 90 youths on Wednesday, May 15.

But police have taken steps to reassure the public that the park is safe and that they are working with partners as well as regularly patrolling the area.

One of North Ayrshire’s top cops is reassuring the public that it is safe but urging anyone with concerns to contact police.

Inspector David Cameron – Locality Policing Inspector for Irvine, Kilwinning and the Garnock Valley says: “We are aware of concerns in relation to recently reported incidents of antisocial behaviour at Eglinton Country Park.

“We are committed to working with partners and park visitors to make the area a safe place to live, work and visit.

“Police officers regularly conduct patrols of the area and I would encourage anyone with any concerns to speak with those officers or to call us on 101.

“I would like to reassure the public that the park is very much still a safe place to visit and enjoy.”
