A poem paying tribute to David Scaife has been released following the sad and sudden loss of one of Kilwinning's most well-known sons.

A Tribute to Davie, written by Aileen McMaster, was shared by Kilwinning Bowling Club ahead of his funeral today.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Family and friends gathered today to pay their last respects to the great man at Kilwinning Old Parish Church, before meeting at David's beloved Kilwinning Bowling Club at 2pm.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

David requested that no black ties be worn and asked that either coloured ties or bowling attire be worn.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

Working as Secretary at both Kilwinning Bowling Club and the District Secretary within North Ayrshire for Bowls Scotland,  David was a larger than life figure known for his infectious smile, warmth, cracking sense of humour and wonderful singing voice.

When he wasn’t bowling or travelling, he enjoyed nothing more than putting on a show at many pubs and clubs throughout the local area and always knew how to get the crowd going.

Bowls Scotland said in a statement: “Bowls Scotland are saddened this morning to hear of the sudden passing of District 27 Secretary David Scaife.

“David, the Secretary of Kilwinning Bowling Club, was a strong supporter of his local club, Ayrshire Bowling and many Bowls Scotland initiatives. David recently appeared in our promotional video for Try Bowls and was a great supporter of the sport in this country and at his beloved Kilwinning Bowling Club.

“Everyone at Bowls Scotland passes on their condolences to David’s family and friends at Kilwinning Bowling Club.”
