TWO of Ayrshire’s biggest races are fast approaching and the countdown to take part is on!

Roon the Toon takes place on June 9 and the K2-4 Ultra Marathon on June 28. Both are welcoming new participants until Friday May 31.

The Roon the Toon 10K road race starts and finishes at Kilmarnock’s Ayrshire Athletics Arena. The route takes competitors through the town centre and surrounding countryside, over a fast predominantly flat course.

The event will also include the Scottish 10K Wheelchair Race Championship (open to all wheelchair racers) and the Stroller Roll event which will allow entrants pushing prams / buggies / wheelchairs to compete (self-propelled wheelchair users compete in the main race).

Or how about the K2-4 Trail Race, Scotland’s newest 24 hour ultramarathon. Runners have 24 hours to see how many 4km loops of the route around Dean Castle Country Park they can complete. There is also a 12 hour race which serves as a nice introduction to ultra-running. Teams of up to 10 runners can take part in K2-4 as well as individual entrants. A.
