RESIDENTS are being urged to volunteer to clean up the local community this weekend.

Artist and activist Brian Carey has teamed up with East Ayrshire council to to raise awareness of environmental issues by using litter and flipping items to create artistic statements to get his point of view across.

Now they are hosting an event on Sunday 12 May from 9am at U730 Glenshamrock Road near Catrine.

It comes after members of the public have been dumping items in the ditches, hidden from view and some of these items are contaminating the land and causing significant health hazards for public and wildlife.

Councillor Jim McMahon has also linked in with Brian to arrange the major clean-up of the area.

East Ayrshire Council is supporting this initiative by arranging to uplift and dispose of all the items collected on the day.

Local volunteers and elected members will be present to assist with the clear up.

The clear up will run from 9am – 1pm . A health and safety briefing will take place at 9am.
