A WORLD champion athlete from New Cumnock is beaming with pride after completing his latest race with his 20 month old great grandson in under an hour.

Alistair Kerr, 74, took part in his first Roon the Toon last year in the stroller race category with little Oscar.

He is now gearing up to get Oscar back in the race this summer for the next 10K race hosted by the Kilmarnock Harriers on Sunday, June 9.

The exceptional athlete is a former Scottish Welsh national age group winner in triathlon, duathlon and World Corporate Games triathlon.

He is also an indoor rowing world online marathon winner and twotime Scottish age group winner in 50km ultra marathons.

The race is flat and fast, suitable for new runners or runners hoping to improve their time.

Cumnock Chronicle:

There are a number of categories including the stroller race and new this year are the School and Sports Club Challenges which gives schools and sports club teams the opportunity to win £500 for their funds.

Kilmarnock Football Club are also supporting this year’s race as part of their 150th anniversary celebrations.

Fans are being asked to run the race in their favourite Killie tops in a bid to turn the town blue and white.

All the runners will also receive an invite to an after race party at the Park Hotel in Kilmarnock.

He said: “Over the last 35 years I have competed in over 430 races but the one I will always cherish is Roon the Toon with my great grandson Oscar.

“I am still enjoying running and walking 40 miles each week and I am really looking forward to entering the Roon the Toon stroller race with Oscar, in his home town of Kilmarnock, on Sunday, June 9.”
