GENEROUS Ochiltree residents have raised hundreds of pounds while paying tribute to local legends.

The community raked in over £800 from a sponsored walk to open a revamped public meet up spot.

It comes after David Reid, 62, gathered friends and neighbours honour a group of men ‘who made him the man he is today’ by building a community shelter and summer seat in their memory.

The group of men used to meet at the seat years ago to discuss and debate local issues and soon became ic ons in the village.

Cumnock Chronicle:

But after years of harsh weather the shelter was blown down and the bench badly deteriorated over time.

Now the community has restored the seat and shelter to their former glory so future generations can enjoy the peaceful views and have their very own discussions.

David said:“The community action plan group would like to thank everyone who sponsored and took part and achieved this magnificent sum.

“The money will help to fund all the events and activities we do throughout the year.

“We are also planning other wee things to make the village look better...so thanks each and everyone of you for contributing to help our group.

Cumnock Chronicle:

“Ochiltree is trying hard to be a community again so things like this that br ings us together is important.

“In Ochiltree u ken everyone.

“I really looked up to them in the community they made me the man I am today listening to their life experiences.

“Now I just want to give something back.”
