A Kilwinning boy raised more than £900 while growing his hair long to make a wig for a cancer charity.

Eight-year-old Arran Milne grew out his hair for two years so he could make a wig for the Little Princess Trust while also raising funds for the Ayrshire Hospice.

And the Corsehill pupil managed to raise a tremendous £930 for the vital charity ahead of braving the shave in Under Cutz on Monday, April 1 – joined by mum Lorna, dad Steven and his gran Myra.

Proud mum Lorna said: “Genuinely I can’t even express how proud I am of him, he’s such a kindhearted wee boy.

He’s got a heart of gold. He got 10 inches cut off and he’s loving it, absolutely. He’s done really well.

“It was actually back in February 2017 he had started growing it. It was when he was six after seeing an advert and wanted to do his bit to help.

“He was asking why they didn’t have any hair and we were explaining to him about chemotherapy and the Little Princess Trust that can make wigs to help. So he decided he was going to grow his hair out to make into a wig, and he stuck at it ever since.

“He’s done fundraising for the Ayrshire Hospice before at the colour dash, and he also held a raffle and lots of local business donated prizes.

“I think the highlight for him fundraising was getting to meet the artist Steven Brown, he was one of the people who donated prizes. He gave us a big signed canvass and he got to meet him, it absolutely made his day.”
