PUPILS from Sanquar Academy took to the outdoors to learn about life in the water at Nith Catchment Fishery last week.
The day trip was part of the Fishing for the Future project run by the Nith Catchment Fishery Trust and funded by Holywood Trust, Nith District Salmon Fishery Board, Tesco Bags of Help and Misses Robinson’s Trust.
The youngsters took to Crawick Water to carry out a river survey by the method of Electrofishing - a catch and release survey used to determine fish population.
The salmon fry that they have been caring for in the classroom will soon be ready to be released into the river.
