A MAUCHLINE man will wear a tag after being caught drunk in his car last year.

Donald MacDonald of Auchmillan House was spotted in Loudoun Street under the influence of alcohol on November 1. After being seen struggling to walk getting out his car, a witness intervened to ensure he didn’t drive the car.

When the 42-year-old was breathalysed, he had 53 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - which is more than twice the legal limit.

Depute Fiscal Andrew Lazzarin told the court: “At around 6.50pm, the accused got out the vehicle and stumbled to the middle of the road. A witness took his car keys off him and phoned the police.”

Sheriff Desmond Leslie ordered MacDonald to a Community Payback Order which will be supervised for one year with a requirement to remain in his home address between 7pm and 7am. He was also disqualified from holding and obtaining a driving license for two years.
