DRIVERS are being warned to prepare for major disruptions this month as work begins on resurfacing a busy trunk road.

Transport Scotland announced the A76 South of Glenairlie, between Sanquhar and Carronbridge, will be shut off as they begin work on the road.

From February the 15th to Monday the 18th there will be no access to the area.

Day time work will continue on site till the 19th of February causing delays and disruption to the area.

Commuters are being urged to plan their journeys in advance and take alternative routes while the work gets underway.

This comes as part of an investment into the A76 which is one of a number of programmes being carried out by Scotland TranServ.

James McLean, Scotland TranServ’s Principal Network Design Engineer said:

“We have been working in consultation with local authorities, emergency services and key stakeholders to carefully plan this project to be delivered with minimal impact and maximum efficiency.

“The safety of our workers and the motoring public is of paramount concern and therefore it will be necessary to close the trunk road while these works are carried out. Working across the weekend reduces the impact on businesses and commuters using this popular route.”

Andy Fraser, Scotland TranServ’s Operating Company Representative concluded:

“Across South West Scotland, we’re working on behalf of Transport Scotland to prioritise such road maintenance issues and deliver our road surface improvement projects as quickly, efficiently and safely as possible. This programme of work has therefore been scheduled to be delivered with maximum efficiency and minimal disruption.”
