AN AUCHINLECK man was horrified after finding a bag stuffed with used syringes near a kids play area.

Brian Carey found the carrier bag dumped by a trim-trail at the back of Cameron Drive full of dirty needles while out a walk.

He was furious at the amount of items that had been discarded near the area, where local kids often play, and wanted to spread awareness.

He then rummaged through the filthy drug supplies and lay them out before snapping photos of the mess.

As a local environmental artist he felt obligated to get creative with the dangerous materials to show how bad the litter problem had become in his area.

After reporting the mess to the Auchinleck Community Initiative and stood guard of the bag before eventually giving up and tidying up the contents himself.

He said: “I spotted an ordinary carrier bag beside the path and went over to look inside it.

“When I realised what it was I became really angry about it. This is an area where kids go to play and these people had just left needles and syringes and other dangerous items out in the open.

“What if children had found the bag? They could have chased each other or messed about with it not realising how serious it was.

“I emptied the contents out the bag and took pictures for an art project to show how bad the problem was.

“I waited about a bit but it was getting dark so just did it myself.

“I had protective gloves and used my litter picker to move everything so I didn’t directly touch the items.

“I wanted to highlight how shocking it was of an incident because I just think it is a total disgrace and disregard for people’s health in general.

“I want the people who dumped it to know you can damage your own health all you want I suppose but don’t inflict your choices on other people.”

The Cumnock Chronicle have reached out to the Auchinleck Community Initiative for a statement.
