GIRLS from Cumnock are being inspired to consider a career in Civil Engineering.

Over 150 female pupils headed to Ayrshire college to for a special ‘Girls Into Construction and Civil Engineering’ day, as part of the College’s award-winning #ThisAyrshireGirlCan campaign.

This included S1 and S2 girls from Cumnock Academy who got the chance to rotate around three different workshops throughout the day.

Workshops were held in brickwork, carpentry and joinery, civil engineering, construction management, electrical engineering, land surveying, painting and decorating, plumbing, and quantity surveying.

The students heard important messages about how more girls are needed in the industry and listened to a number of inspirational women currently working in Construction and Civil Engineering.

Laura Love, Project Manager at Ashleigh Building, who spoke to the group about there being many different pathways into Construction.

Jill Fisher, Electrical Engineering lecturer at Ayrshire College, told the group about some of the projects she’s been involved in throughout Europe, USA and Australia.
