Pete Wishart has reacted with dismay as Jeremy Corbyn once again failed to state whether his party are for or against Brexit.

The Labour leader has tabled a motion of no-confidence which he hopes will prompt a General Election.

But asked by Wishart in the Commons whether Labour’s manifesto would include support for Brexit, Corbyn was unable to give a conclusive answer.

“They want a General Election but Labour can't say if they are a party of Brexit or a party against,” Wishart tweeted afterwards.

Previously at Westminster, The Perth and North Perthshire MP delivered his question to howls from the Labour benches.

“If He [Jeremy Corbyn] is successful in this motion this evening there may be a General Election in a few short weeks,” he said. “In that Labour Party manifesto, will they state whether they will be a party of Brexit or a party against Brexit. It’s as simple question, what is the answer?”

Generating even louder wails of discontent, Corbyn replied: “Mr Speaker we are a democratic party and our party will decide what policy we fight the election on.”

Having to raise his voice above the outcries, the Labour leader continued: “In the meantime, we are very clear there has to be a customs union, there has to be access to European trading markets, there has to be a protection of rights, there has to be a rejection of a no-deal Brexit.”
