AUCHINLECK pupils boosted their chances of employment by learning new skills through two innovative projects.

A community cafe, Bean and Gone, and nail bar, Perfectly Polished, are up and running at Auchinleck Academy teaching students both barista skills and beauty tips.

It comes after a partnership between Developing Young Workforce Ayrshire and the Prince’s Trust introduced the projects to help kids grab jobs after school.

The pupils can gain certificates and qualifications in hospitality trades which they can use to get work or continue developing at college and university.

Depute Provost Claire Leitch and local member Councillor Neil McGhee joined Councillor Fiona Campbell, Cabinet Member for Skills and Learning at the launch of the projects.

Cllr Campbell said: “20 pupils have been selected to participate in these wonderful projects this year. The young people have had an incredible opportunity to learn a range of practical skills, including customer service, barista skills and technical nail skills.”
