ANGRY members of Auchinleck Community Development Initiative (ACDI) have condemned flytippers who have left the Cameron Drive Trim Trail “looking like the local coup”.

The ACDI board were dismayed on Monday when the discovery was made before staff spent hours disposing of the mountain of rubbish.

Staff usually inspect the trail weekly but this was suspended over the festive period allowing “some lazy, inconsiderate person(s)” to spoil the landscape.

A spokesperson of ACDI said: “We work hard to improve the environment in and around Auchinleck but it seems that some of our good citizens don’t appreciate the work we do and are hell-bent on destroying the environmental projects which have been created by our young trainees and staff.

“Above all, this is a kick in the teeth to them. They have had to spend hours of valuable time clearing and disposing of this rubbish at considerable cost to ACDI. The money will have to be taken from other important projects resulting in a loss of service to the community.”

The charity are now determined the culprits are brought to justice after dumping what seemed like “the entire contents of their house”.

The spokesperson added: “Fly tipping is a serious offence under the law and we can assure the community that if we do find out the culprits we will do our utmost to have them prosecuted as it seems that may be the only way to stop the destruction of our open spaces.

“I would therefore urge anybody who knows or suspects who the offenders are in this instance, to come forward with the names so that we can go to the police to have them charged. The tidiness and appearance of the community is the responsibility of everybody but it is also the community’s responsibility to stop those who would destroy it.”
