AN unknown man has been hit by a car on the A76 near Cumnock before walking away.

Police are eager to trace the man - who is described as wearing dark clothing and between 30-40 years old - to ensure his wellbeing.

The incident occured at around 4.30pm on Hogmany on the A76 near to Timbermills, Borland Farm, Cumnock.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "About 4:33pm on Monday, December 31 it is believed that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on the A76 near to Timbermills, Borland Farm, Cumnock.

"The man was described as 30-40 years of age wearing dark clothing. The man was seen to walk away from the incident, but police are looking to trace the man to confirm he is safe and well."
