EDINBURGH’S Hogmanay Street Party features a selection of homegrown names, European talent and acts you will likely hear a lot more from in 2019.
Hosted by Love Island’s Aftersun DJs The Mac Twins and Johnnie Walker, every reveller (over-18s only with ID) will receive a complimentary dram of Johnnie Walker Whisky to toast the new year at midnight when Meute, a German techno marching band, provide the soundtrack to the fireworks display from Edinburgh Castle.
After the bells have fallen silent, street artists from Scotland and Europe such as Compagnie Transe Express, Compagnie Des Quidams and PyroCeltica will help keep the party going into the wee hours.
Earlier, music acts setting the beats to keep warm to include veteran DJs Trendy Wendy and Judge Jules mixing it up at the Castle Street Stage while the South St David Street Stage will host local psychedelic rockers Miracle Glass Company and Elephant Sessions, the energetic Celtic troupe named as 2018’s BBC Scots Trad Music Awards Live Act of the Year.
The best bet for fans wanting to catch two Scots acts to watch in the coming year is the Waverley Stage, which is headlined by 1990s German superstars Snap! and Castlemilk phenomenon Gerry Cinnamon.
Newly announced is Stephanie Cheape, a fast-rising newcomer from Hamilton who will open the show along with her band of metal showmen. Following her will be Vistas, an Edinburgh indie outfit whose exuberant sing-a-longs also have them tipped for bigger things.
For the first time the Street Party will also feature a Silent Disco arena on Market Street. With three channels to choose from, bear in mind that advance fiver ticket purchases can only be made when buying either a ticket for the Street Party or Concert in the Gardens. On-the-night tickets will be £10.
