A PROJECT which prioritises crime prevention has been launched in Cumnock.

Called Prevention First, the scheme was introduced in specific areas of Kilmarnock in 2014 and proved to be effective.

Its purpose is for partner agencies to identify persons and/or a specific area that are posing a risk to themselves or others.

After being successfully rolled out across the whole of Kilmarnock, it will be implemented in Cumnock and the surrounding area.

Sergeant Iain Farmer from East Ayrshire Priority Policing Team said; “Prevention First is an opportunity for Police Scotland, East Ayrshire Council, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and other partners to get round the table and look at issues caused in an area or by an individual. The discussions take place in order to find a positive resolution for issues that are discussed.

“Having seen positivity coming from Kilmarnock Prevention First I believe that this will have a similar success in Cumnock. I am looking forward to collaborating with our partner agencies to assist with keeping people safe within the Cumnock area”.

If you would like to discuss any issues within your local area please report it to your locality policing team by calling 101 — always 999 in an emergency — or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.
