BBC Children in Need's Big Learner Relay travelled through Cumnock, Doon Valley and Upper Nithsdale on Sunday, November 4.

The threat of roadworks on the A76 surrounding New Cumnock almost derailed their bid but an alternate route was found and the Sanquhar and Netherthird stops were reached in plenty of time.

Shelley Smith of SMS Driving School took up the baton at Dumfries and stopped over at the Forsyth and Upper Nithsdale Swimming Pool in Sanquhar and Netherthird Community Centre before travelling onto Ayr and Kilmarnock.

The communities along the route turned in force to show their support and the relay has already raised an impressive total.

Shelley said: "We had an issue because the roads between Cumnock and Kirkconnel were shut this weekend so we were not sure if we could go to Netherthird.

"The complete total so far is £24,000 and rising as it's only day four of the relay. We haven't finalised all donations as yet."
