A RETIRED policeman has launched another book in the local community.

Donald L Reid’s most recent publication ‘More Doon Valley Tales – A Keek Into Our Past’ was launched last week in Dalmellington Scout Hall.

The author received substantial praise for his latest edition and shared his delight at selling 51 books in a little over two hours.

Donald’s father, James L Reid, was also a member of Dalmellington Scouts in the mid 1930s and Donald followed in his scouting footsteps in Dalmellington. Consequently the 33rd Ayrshire Scouts at Dalmellington hold a special place in the corner of Donald’s heart, hence his choice to hold the book launch in the Scout hall.

Donald said: “I was delighted to hold the book launch there and selling 51 books in just over two hours was wonderful.

“I have now sold 333 books in just over two weeks with many others available in different outlets. It was also a real delight to speak to so many Doon Valley folk who popped in to buy the book and have a coffee and a blether.

“The Doon Valley area has such a rich history and as I do my research, I keep coming across information which is fascinating. Pulling it all together and including it in a book which will hopefully stand the test of time is important to me.”
