Dalmellington Parish came together in The Square on Thursday evening (November 1) as part of their commemorations of the 1918 Armistice.

An installation of three Tommy silhouettes has been erected in the town centre to represent each of the three war memorials in the parish – Dalmellington, Waterside and Benwhat.

Ex-servicemen read out the names of the fallen from the three monuments as local school children placed poppy crosses at the Tommy’s feet and Dalmellington Silver Band also performed on the night.

At the end of the month, the Tommy installation will be dismantled with each Tommy subsequently being placed on guard at each of the three monuments.
